Jiang shook hand with Deng Xiaoping, the chief architect of China’s economic reform and opening-up policy, during the fifth plenary of CPC’s 13th Central Commission held in November 1989 in Beijing.
On August 13,1998, Jiang went to Hubei province to supervise the fight against the unprecedented flooding in person and made a speech on the bank of the Yangtze River.
On September7,2000,leaders of five Standing Members of the UN Security Council met in New York at the proposal of then Chinese President Jiang Zemin.
