BEIJING, December 13 (TMTPOST) ——With the departure of inmates in many mobile cabin hospitals in Guangzhou, the captial of Guangdong province in southern China, such temporary healthcare facilities have been closed one after another since last Sunday.

A staff member of a major hospital in Guangzhou said that according to the arrangement of the city, most mobile cabin hospitals will be closed in an orderly manner. Mobile cabin hospitals mainly admit people with mild and asymptomatic infections diagnosed with COVID-19. At its peak time, Guangzhou opened at least 23 mobile cabin hospitals in all of its districts, providing more than 80,000 beds.

The current round of the pandemic in Guangzhou began on October 22. On October 30, 527 new coronavirus infections were founded in Guangzhou in a single day, equivalent to half of the total number of infections in the first week. On the same day, the cabin hospital in the Biosafety Park of Huangpu District began to accept patients, which was the first cabin put into use in Guangzhou during this round of the pandemic. But soon, infections soared by thousands per day, and beds ran out.

On the evening of November 4, medical staff sent by Guangzhou First People"s Hospital entered the mobile cabin hospital located on Pazhou Island, Haizhu District, Guangzhou.  The cabin hospital was built on part of the core venue for holding the China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair). The first phase of the project was put into use at the end of 2002 as the largest exhibition center in Asia. The resident medical staff distributed supplies that night and prepared to receive patients.

The number of newly added daily cases in Guangzhou peaked at 9,244 on November 17.   According to the pandemic data statistics reported by the Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission, as of December 7, Guangzhou had reported more than 180,000 cases of infection, 90 percent of which were asymptomatic infections.
